Throughout my career installing washing machines, dishwashers, ovens, and hobs, I noticed the same pattern again and again. Customers would call me out to fit a new appliance they'd just bought — excited about the bargain they'd found. But months or years later, when something went wrong, they'd suddenly realise the true cost of their "cheap" choice.
